Introduction to Somatics:
The Key to Relax Back, Greater Flexibility

and Body Happiness

 Sunday, July 28 2013  3:00 pm - 5:00 pm                 Participation fee: $50

Recently, I participated in a fabulous workshop. As a movement educator, what stood out for me in that workshop was the realization that if our body is experiencing aches and pains it is very difficult to focus on the learning and participate in other activities. When we experience discomfort, that discomfort takes the first priority in getting our attention and other activities automatically take a back seat.

I still remember the time a few years ago when I was in excruciating pain and how it made me stop living my life. After trying many holistic therapies, I found Somatics.  Somatics helped me get out of pain and stay out of pain. Now, I can prioritize my life the way I want to without discomfort and pain constantly holding me back.

How will you benefit?

Have you tried stretching and strengthening exercises to help relieve your back problems without success? Have you tried several types of treatments to relieve your back pain and discomfort only to find limited lasting results? Do you habitually keep repeating movements which cause discomfort because they have become automatic?

If you find yourself nodding as you read these questions because of your experience, then this workshop is for you. You will learn how to take control over bad movement patterns which have become habitual, and replace them with healthier patterns which will reduce your discomfort and pain.

What should you expect during the workshop?

§  Slow, easy, gentle, mindful movements that rewire neural patterns in the frontal brain to rid your body of pain.

§  Self care movement patterns to enforce new movement patterns.

§  Individual hands-on Somatics application at the end of the workshop.

Yoga mats will be provided. Please feel free to bring your own if you so prefer.

Wear clothing which allows easy and free movement. *

Brief Neurophysiology of Movement:

In this workshop, you will learn to get out of the habit of being in pain and discomfort and stay out of this habit by rewiring your neural patterns and gaining flexibility.

"Neurons that fire together, wire together" is a well known scientific fact. When neurons fire together again and again, they create a habit of moving in a certain way. But when neurons don't fire, they take away your ability of doing a movement and you experience stiffness and pain.

When on autopilot mode, wired neurons fire. Neurons rewire and create new possibilities of movement(s) when movements are done with awareness. Somatic movements are slow and gentle movements that re-wire neural patterns to create fluid and flexible movements. Somatics is a cutting edge, revolutionary method that re-wires neurons by guiding you through mindful movements to get rid of pain and discomfort.

Back pain and discomfort is excruciatingly painful. It can affect every aspect of our life. When we have to tend to discomfort and pain in the lower back, our life takes a back seat. This workshop is the most effective way of regaining flexibility by re-patterning new neural pathways.

Space is limited to 6 participants.

Why Somatics?

Usually our day is spent doing repetitive movements when we sit, stand, work or exercise. These movements tend to be on autopilot to get the work done or feel satisfied about our fitness level. Somatic movements are mindfulness is motion. These movements bring awareness to the core movement patterns to make them elegant and effortless.
